Pregnancy and lactation	In numerous epidemiological studies the use of salicylates in the first trimester of pregnancy was connected with a higher risk of malformations (palatoschisis, cardiac malformation). After administration of usual therapeutic doses this risk seems to be low. In the prospective study with 32 thousand mother-child pairs there was no relation to a higher frequency of malformation found out. In the last trimester of pregnancy the administration of high doses of salicylates (> 300 mg/d) can lead to prolongation of the pregnancy period, premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and inhibition of utero contraction. A higher tendency to bleed was observed both in the mother and child. Since there were no adverse effects in the infant observed after occasional use, it is not necessary to temporarily discontinue breastfeeding. However, with regular use of high doses (> 300 mg/d) breastfeeding should be discontinued in time, because the risks connected with an insufficient detoxication in the newborn cannot be excluded.

Natrium salicylate relieves pain, decreases high temperature, has an anti-inflammatory effect and inhibits blood platelet aggregation. Natrium citrate in a buffered form provides for a better gastric tolerance.
